Snowshoe Mountain is West Virginia’s premier mountain destination resort. Situated on 11,000 acres of pristine woodland, Snowshoe’s mountaintop Village offers comfort and luxury, as well as days worth of outdoor recreation. The resort began as a ski resort and continues to be best known for winter recreation, but today Snowshoe is recognized as one of the most popular tourism destinations in the state and a complete four-season resort experience. With 1,400 lodging units, Snowshoe offers everything from cozy cabins to luxurious condos. Most lodging is situated at the mountain’s summit, offering stunning views from 4848’. Snowshoe is also home to a number of dining outlets, offering everything from classic southern home cooking to hand-rolled sushi. Guests can also enjoy shopping options and a full-service spa.

In the winter, Snowshoe is a complete wonderland. The resort was recognized at the #1 ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast by Skiing magazine in 2009, and it easily lives up to the billing, with 60 slopes, 244 skiable acres, 180” of annual snowfall and diverse terrain for every level skier and snowboarder. Snowshoe’s terrain is split between three distant areas. The Snowshoe Basin is just steps from the Village center, creating slopeside lodging accommodations across the mountaintop. Across the street from the Basin is the resort’s famed Western Territory. Originally designed by skiing legend Jean Claude Killy, Cupp Run and Shay’s Revenge serve up 1,500 vertical feet of expert terrain over 1.5 miles. The final area, once a stand-along resort in it’s own right, Silver Creek, is home to the resort’s only night skiing and tubing hill, and provides a variety of terrain width wide trails. Even if you don’t ski or board, you won’t be bored at Snowshoe; from the 5-lane Coca-Cola Tubing Park, to guided snowmobile tours and a 15,000 sq. ft. entertainment center, featuring arcade and video games, a mechanical bull, pool and ping pong tables and much more. Snowshoe is also home to a number of indoor/outdoor heated pool and mountaintop hot tubs, which are the perfect spot to enjoy after a long day on the slopes and enjoy the resort’s breathtaking sunsets over the Western ridge.

In the summer, Snowshoe’s trail system heads into the woods, offering miles of some of the best downhill mountain biking in the East. The resort plays host to a four-event race series each summer, and offers terrain for beginners to true adrenaline junkies. If you’re just getting into the sport, lessons, as well as bike and equipment rentals are available on-site. If you like something a little mellower, Snowshoe hosts a variety of events, nearly every weekend from July 4th to Labor Day. From the famed Fire on the Mountain Chili-Cook-off to a Blues, Brews and BBQ and Food, Wine and Jazz Festival, Snowshoe has an event for every taste. Nearly every event weekend in animated with live music and great kids activities. And the resort also has adventure activities throughout the season. You can explore the resort’s 11,000 acres on foot with the extensive hiking trail network, experience it at top speed in an off-road dune buggy or zip along aboard a high-tech Segway personal transportation device. Snowshoe’s cool summer temperatures make it the perfect escape from the sticky heat found elsewhere in the region, and the resort is perfect situated to enjoy other summer tourism destinations throughout the state.
